Ex-FIFA official breaks silence on England’s failed 2018 World Cup bid to Russia and apologizes to Prince William and David Beckham
Jack Warner played a vital role in Russia hosting the 2018 World Cup.
Banned from football for life, ex-FIFA official Jack Warner robbed England of the chance in order to host the 2018 World Cup and is now also accused of taking a $5m ‘bribe’ from Russia to hand them the chance in 2018. He has apologized to both Prince William and David Beckham for misleading them over his vote for the hosting country of the 2018 World Cup.
Jack Warner is a FIFA vice president and is currently fighting extradition to the United States as there have been 29 charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering filed against him. A man who once led a rich and lavish life and was known as one of world football’s true power brokers currently lives in a small locality on the island of Trinidad.
He was the vice president of FIFA for about thirty years and was a very famous presence in modern-day football. He sat presidents, prime ministers, and princes and traveled in first-class seats, and stayed in five-star hotels, but now has lost it all after the allegations of corruption came to light which banned him from football.
What did Jack Warner say about his apology to England’s David Beckham and Prince William?
Warner told about his meeting with Prince William saying, “I never said [to him] that I would vote for them. I said, of course, I would give it some serious thought. Even when the English team came here [to Trinidad] and Beckham came and did coaching courses and so on, they asked me to make a statement that Jack Warner of CONCACAF now supported the England bid. I didn’t do it.“
He added, “I never made a public endorsement of anything. Where I failed is I should have told England very early what my intention was. I did not do that and therefore they were led along to believe I was supporting them.” He also talked about his relationship with the England Queen saying, “I met the Queen, I met her husband. The Queen gave me her plane to go to Ireland. England was very good to me.”
