Ilkay Gundogan has joined FC Barcelona on a free transfer. The German midfielder was released by Manchester City as his contract was over by June 30 and there were no concrete talks over a possible extension at the Etihad Stadium.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gundogan has signed a two years contract until 2025 with the Catalan giants. The contract also has a clause for extending his stay for another year. The club has put a release worth €500 million on the midfielder as per reports.
Gundogan’s entourage were waiting for La Liga to give the green light to Barcelona for registering the player successfully as they wanted no problems. The German Midfielder has been a priority target for Xavi and Barcelona since January as they wanted to bolster their squad with top players. He has also been deemed as a ‘must have’ for the club after club captain Sergio Busquet announced that he would leave the club at the end of the season in June.
Gundogan has been a pivotal part of Pep Guardiola‘s historic Manchester City squad. He has played 304 matches for Man City and has scored 60 goals and made 40 assists. Gundogan has had a glorious time at Manchester City. He has won five Premier Leagues, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups, one English Super Cup, and a Champions League.

FC Barcelona has reportedly signed Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer from Manchester City. The player has signed a two years contract with the club. Reports earlier suggested that Man City offered to double his salary in an effort of keeping him at the club. But it seems Gundogan has chosen to go for a new adventure at La Liga.
Fans are really excited as the German midfielder joined the Catalan Giants. They think that Gundogan was an important signing for the club as manager Xavi Hernandez was determined to acquire his services for the upcoming season. Many fans even took to social media to show their excitement regarding the signing.
