Chelsea and Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic will leave the club this summer. According to reports, the player is going to join league rivals and treble-winners Manchester City for £30 million.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has been reached between Chelsea and Man City over Kovacic. Man City were interested to bolster their midfielder and Pep Guardiola was also interested in the Croatian after the sudden departure of club captain Ilkay Gundogan.
According to the reports, Man City will pay a guaranteed £25 million to Chelsea. The rest of £5 million would be paid as add-ons which will only be activated when and if Man City wins more titles. It is not related to the player’s performance. Medicals would take place within a few days. Personal terms from the player’s side had already been agreed as Kovacic only wanted to move to Manchester City.
Kovacic first joined Chelsea in 2018 on a loan move from Real Madrid. Although the next season the club was impressed by his performance and made his move permanent in 2019 for a fee of €45 million. In his last four seasons at Chelsea, Kovacic played a total of 221 games and scored six goals. He also has 15 assists to his name. During his time at Chelsea, the Croatian has won one UEFA Champions League, one Club World Cup, one Europa League title, and a UEFA Super Cup.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is set to leave the club before the start of the new season. Manchester City are reportedly set to sign Mateo Kovacic in a £30 million deal from Chelsea. Man City’s Pep Guardiola has always been appreciative of the player and was eager to add him to his team’s ranks once he knew that the player was up for sale. Kovacic has also been very interested in joining the current Premier League champions. The Croatian is the fourth player, after Hakim Ziyech, N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, and Kalidou Koulibaly, who’s set to leave Chelsea this summer.
Fans are reportedly very happy with the signing of Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City. They feel that the player would grow to great lengths under Guardiola. Many fans even took to social media to be vocal about their joy for this tournament. One fan wrote, “Good move for both parties.
