Former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos met old rivals Barcelona in La Liga on Friday. The 37-year-old made a return to his former club Sevilla in the summer transfer window. Ramos was the center of attention as always. However, on this occasion, it was not a night to remember for the veteran. In spite of putting up a solid performance, Barcelona took all 3 points.
It was Ramos, who “gifted” the win to his archrivals. Ramos found himself on the wrong side of the pitch when he knocked the ball past Ørjan Nyland. A header from Lamine Yamal bounced off of Ramos and into his own net. Barca managed to see off Sevilla thanks to the own goal. The loss meant that Sevilla remained 12th in the league with 7 points in 7 games.
Sevilla came close through Ivan Rakitic and Lucas Ocampos. However, a Ter Stegen save and a goal-saving block by Gavi ensured that Barca took all three points.
Furthermore, Ramos was all smiles after the game and was seen cheerfully embracing Gavi after the full-time whistle. The win meant Barcelona went top of the table. However, Real Madrid are close behind with a game in hand.

Twitter reacts to Sergio Ramos’ unlucky own goal
Sergio Ramos’ reunion with Barcelona meant fireworks. However, the 37-year-old had a night to forget after scoring a second half own goal. In an embarassing moment, the 4-time UCL winner scored the only goal as Barcelona won 1-0 on the night.
Following the game, fans on Twitter have been relentlessly trolling the veteran for his error. A fan even commented on Ramos scoring for Messi because of his time at PSG.
This is how some of the fans reacted to X:
Sergio Ramos and Co. find themselves 12th in La Liga. Meanwhile, the loss came through only Ramos’ third-ever own-goal of his career. Consequently, the Nervionenses have managed to keep only two clean sheets in the last 7 games. Now, they will be taking on PSV on Wednesday.
