Mohamed Salah was on the scoresheet yet again as visitors Liverpool took an early lead against Manchester City. This was his 11th strike against the mighty Mancunians overall and his 12th in the Premier League this season.

After an extremely tight start to the game with both sides leaving each other minimal breathing space, Diogo Jota received the ball in the penalty area and put it on a plate for Salah to slot in the corner out of Ederson’s reach. This was the Egyptian’s first goal after a three-game drought with his last goal coming in the 7-0 humiliation of Manchester United.

However, Manchester City responded just 10 minutes later. Man in form Jack Grealish received the ball in a wide area whose low cross found Julian Alvarez who calmly slotted it home from close range to equalize.

Manchester City versus Liverpool has been one of the feistiest games to watch in the recent past. The two have created a rivalry in the past few seasons as they consistently compete for the Premier League title. This is the fourth meeting of the season between the teams. Two of those ties were won by the Scousers.

Liverpool initially beat Manchester City 3-1 in the Community Shield at the start of the season. In their first meeting in the Premier League this season, Mohamed Salah’s lone strike was enough for Liverpool to secure a 1-0 win at Anfield. However, Manchester City responded with a 3-2 win in the Carabao Cup Round of 16 in December through goals from Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez, and Nathan Ake.

Manchester City is currently second on the Premier League table hunting Arsenal at the top. Currently eight points adrift of the league leaders, they play Arsenal on April 27 in a supposed title-deciding match. On the other hand, Liverpool currently stands sixth on the table hoping to secure a top 4 spot. Liverpool also faces Arsenal on April 9 hoping to derail the Gunners’ title charge.
