Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are regarded as the greatest players of their generation. Both together have scored a combined 1454 goals in just club level and have assisted 578 times. Being the great players they are, it was obvious that there would be a rivalry between the two. Many fans often thought the two had a relationship based on mutual respect, but a Spanish journalist has dropped some massive news.  

Guillem Balague, a Spanish Journalist who has also written various books on football, revealed that Ronaldo used to call the Argentine forward a “motherf**ker”. In the interview with CBS Sport, Balague said the Portuguese star saw the FC Barcelona forward as an “enemy” and would regularly call him obscenities in the dressing room, but act polite with him. He mentioned this all in Messi’s biography.

Balague also added that Ronaldo and his team tried making his image into that of a really good guy. It was working until he released the biography based on Messi’s life, where he wrote about Ronaldo, aiming to show them as warriors.

While negotiating with Ronaldo’s agent about a potential biography, some fans found the story and it became the talk of the town. Newspapers and tabloids tried to contact the journalist but then Ronaldo posted on Facebook about the story.

He also added that he wanted to sue Balague, but the journalist did not receive any phone calls from his lawyer. 

Fans slam Cristiano Ronaldo for his behavior

When the clip of Guillem Balague talking about Ronaldo went viral, many fans called out Ronaldo for his poor behavior. Many slammed him, saying he had no respect for Messi and was vile. Some defended him, saying that many competitive sportsmen behave the same way.

Guillem Balague did end up writing and publishing a biography of Cristiano Ronaldo, called Cristiano Ronaldo: The Biography. The book won him the Best Football Book Award in the 2016 Polish Sports Books Awards. He later wrote a book on Mauricio Pochettino and his time with Tottenham Hotspurs, called Brave New World: Inside Pochettino’s Spurs. He currently works as the chairman of Biggleswade United, an English Club that plays in the 11th tier of the pyramid.
