Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and defender Kalidou Koulibaly are set to leave the club this summer. Both players reportedly have a verbal agreement with Saudi Arabian clubs Al Ahli and Al Hilal to join them this summer.
According to reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea has reached a verbal agreement with Al Ahli to sell Mendy prior to the start of the new season. The Senegalese keeper had already agreed to personal terms with the Saudi side. The contract is reportedly going to be for three years. According to reports, the contract is being checked and will be signed if all end up as planned.
Romano’s report also stated that the Blue’s defender Koulibaly is also set to leave the club this summer. A verbal agreement has been reached between Chelsea and Al Hilal to bring the player to Saudi Arabia. Personal terms have also been agreed between the Senegalese defender and the Saudi Arabian club. The contract is reported to be for three years. It is now being checked and will be signed after that if all goes as expected. Koulibaly will be Al Hilal’s second signing ahead of the season after bringing in Wolverhampton Wanderers FC’s Ruben Neves.
Mendy joined Chelsea in September 2020 from the French club Stade Rennais FC. The club paid €24 million for the Senegalese shot-stopper’s services. Although e was the first-choice keeper under German manager Thomas Tuchel and was a pivotal part of his UCL-winning squad in the 2020/21 season. But after the manager’s departure and the appointment of Graham Potter, his services were scarcely used. He was replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga who took up Mendy’s spot as the first-choice keeper at the club. Mendy just made 12 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions last season in which he conceded 17 goals and had just one clean sheet.
Koulibaly joined the Blues before the start of the last season in June 2022. Chelsea paid current Italian Champions Napoli €38 million for the defender. He has made 32 appearances for the club so far and has scored two goals and also has an assist to his name. His Hamstring injury had a great impact on the player as Koulibaly missed a big chunk of the season because of it.

Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy have reportedly reached a verbal agreement and also discussed the personal terms to join the Saudi side Al Hilal and Al Ahil. They aren’t the only players who might be on their way to the Saudi League from Chelsea. Hakim Ziyech and N’Golo Kante are also on the move to join Al Nassr and Al Ittihad respectively.
Fans reportedly aren’t very happy about the ongoing situation at the club. They are pretty much frustrated to see the top players leave the club to join the Saudi side. Many fans even took to social media to criticize Chelsea’s current transfer strategies. One fan wrote, “Chelsea needs to be investigated at this point.” Another fan wrote, “Todd Boehly will relegate Chelsea with all these scandalous deals.” And a third fan wrote, “This is money laundering at this point.”
