Ousmane Dembele moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window of 2023. Being purchased for €50.4 million, many expected him to be one of the signings of the season. Already a big name in France, he had to fill the shoes of the outgoing Neymar as well as he departed for Al-Hilal.
Now, he returned to play football in France after seven years, many expected it to be an easy time for him. After gaining considerable experience at FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund they thought he would be a good fit at PSG, but unfortunately, he hasn’t.
Since making his debut for the Paris-based club in August, Dembele has managed only a single goal for the club, which came against Monaco in November. He has managed eight assists but has failed to score in the Champions League and the Coupe de France.
The forward had only 10 goals in the previous two years but did contribute a lot with assists. The current season is the same, but the assists have also been on a low.
Fans mock Ousmane Dembele as he struggles to score in Ligue 1
Many fans mocked Ousmane Dembele as he has only scored one goal in six months. Some compared him to Manchester United winger, Antony, who has also managed only one the entire season. Some defended him, calling him a good player but unlucky to get any “product”.
Some even claimed he was playing better than Kylian Mbappe. Check out their reactions:
Dembele had joined FC Barcelona in 2017, in the same year Neymar had left for PSG. His five years at the club was marred with injuries, but he was still seen as a vital player in the squad. Despite signing a contract extension in 2022, he left for PSG in 2023. Xavi Hernandez, the Barcelona manager, claimed he was hurt by the winger’s decision to leave the Catalan club.
So far with PSG, he has played 28 matches, starting at his preferred position of right-wing. Despite the low amount of goal contributions, the winger has been appreciated for his performances by fans and pundits alike.
PSG will now play on Friday night against Monaco in the Louis II Stadium. The French giants are comfortably at the top of the Ligue 1 table, with 54 points. They also lead 2-0 in the Champions League Round of 16, beating Real Sociedad at home.
