“Just gonna get worse from here”- Fans react to Ousmane Dembele’s expected u-turn to FC Barcelona after a 40% wage cut

In the midst of mounting reports that he is likely to agree to a new deal with the Catalan giants, Ousmane Dembele has returned to Barcelona.

The Frenchman was allegedly welcomed by club security personnel when he was seen at Barcelona airport on Sunday night. After his agreement with Barcelona ended at the end of June, Dembele is currently a free agent.

Dembele is reportedly close to signing a two-year deal with the Catalans, which will be made public next week. Dembele will take a wage reduction, but according to L’Equipe, if he earns all of his bonuses, he would earn a salary of almost €10 million annually.

On Monday, Barcelona’s international players are scheduled to return for preseason medical exams, and it’s possible that Dembele will join the newcomers.

On July 13, the Catalans face Olot in their first preseason friendly before departing for their preseason tour of the United States. Following the expiration of his contract with Barcelona in June, Dembele, 25, has been heavily linked to Chelsea in recent months.

However, the winger appeared at the Blaugrana’s facilities yesterday night and negotiated a “complete deal” with the team that would see him cut his wage, according to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano.

Fans have responded and reacted sarcastically about Dembele renewing. See some tweets here:

Additionally, the France player has accepted an offer that is 40% less than the one he turned down in December, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The 25-year-old will earn around €6 million (£ 5.1 million) net every season, which is Ansu Fati’s pay. That is a major setback for Chelsea, one of the clubs watching the Frenchman.

Following a £110 million transfer, Dembele moved from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona in 2017.

Over the course of his five years at the Nou Camp, the dynamic attacker has experienced a lot of ailments. Nevertheless, the former Rennes star made 150 games in all competitions and accrued 32 goals and 34 assists.
