Argentina training facility renamed after Lionel Messi

Argentina Football Federation has renamed the training center after their star player. Previously known as the Casa de Ezeiza, it will now be named Lionel Andres Messi after the Paris Saint-Germain star, who unveiled a plaque outside the facility on Saturday. Their captain was awarded the golden ball and silver boot in Qatar after a stellar tournament which led to many labelling him the greatest footballer of all time.
“This Sports Housing Complex in Ezeiza from today will carry a new name: ‘Lionel Andrés Messi,'” said President Claudio Tapia in a speech for the event. Messi took the stage and said: “Thank you all very much for being here. I am grateful to ‘Chiqui’ (Tapia) for this recognition, it is very important to me. I have been coming to this property for 20 years and since I entered, I felt a very special energy. Until today, every time I enter, I feel a very particular energy in this property.”
The honor comes after Messi reached a milestone after scoring his 800 career goal via a last-ditch free-kick in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Panama on Friday. The PSG star was at the forefront of Argentina’s success during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring seven goals, including a brace in the final, and providing three assists.
