“GOAT debate is settled,” FIFA officially crowns Lionel Messi as the greatest of all time after his 2022 World Cup triumph

Argentina triumphed in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Lionel Messi can finally claim himself to be the greatest of all time, surpassing his long-time competitor Cristiano Ronaldo and his country’s legend Diego Maradona. Messi was always kept below Maradona because of his failure at the international level, but now there is no catching La Pulga.

After winning the World Cup, FIFA World Cup posted a picture of Messi along with his fifth Man Of The Match trophy and claimed that the goat debate was “finally settled.” FIFA may have posted it because after Portugal suffered a shock quarterfinal exit against Morocco, it is clear that Cristiano Ronaldo will most likely end his professional career without a FIFA World Cup.

On the other hand, Lionel Messi ended Argentina’s 36-year-long wait and lifted that golden trophy that he has seemed the most in his career. However, the debate might still continue, with both legends’ fans arguing over it on social media. While Messi now has a World Cup to show against his name, Ronaldo might just bounce back from this position as well, as fans have witnessed him doing in the past too.

Is Lionel Messi the greatest of all time now that he has won the FIFA World Cup?

FIFA edited their caption after the goat debate backlash.

With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing their last World Cup, Portugal and Argentina were one of the biggest favorites at the tournament. But it was Messi’s brilliance that worked it out for Argentina, and under his captaincy, the Light Blue Army became the world champions again after 1986.

Lionel Messi has been a man on a mission for his team. After receiving five man-of-the-match awards in the tournament and the best player award, the Golden Ball, he has broken every record possible, becoming the only player to do so in their entire career.

Messi has finally come out of the shadows of Diego Maradona and his competitor; Ronaldo will have to step down as he will always be remembered for ending his career without a World Cup, which Messi finally achieved. Taking away nothing from the jobs of the legends who have achieved so much, Lionel Messi would have his name written in the history books as the man who committed it all.
