The ball was awarded to a lucky winner who denied revealing their Identity. He participated in the Adidas competition named ‘Win the Match ball’. The owner of the ball believes price of the ball if auctioned will be immense to at least £160,000 pounds. When speaking about the authenticity of the historic ball, “It’s got the best possible paper trail. The ball is fully authenticated, and we can trace every part of its journey to date,” said David Convey who is the head of the sporting memoirs department of Graham Budd Auction House.

The ball has its own historic significance. It probably carries the history when the old son of football Lionel Messi faced new generation sensation Kylian Mbappe. Argentina won the World Cup in Lusail’s stadium defeating France in a penalty shootout by four goals to two after a historic 3-3 clash. Lionel Messi was crowned with the ultimate trophy that was not present in his endless cabinet while Kylian Mbappe won the golden boot for scoring the most number of goals.

FIFA will conduct the 23rd FIFA world cup in 2026. The next edition of the World Cup will see a new format which will showcase 48 teams. FIFA will host the tournament in three American countries. Canada, Mexico and the United States will host matches alternatively.

Till now the editions of the major soccer tournament had 32 teams divided into groups of four. The next edition of the Mundial will divide 48 teams into 12 groups of four teams.

The top 32 teams will qualify for the round of 32 and so on. The number of games would be 104 from the initial count of 64. Many football pundits criticise the format. They predict this fixture might lead to collusion and teams may lose with a mala fide motive to remove their rivals. FIFA hierarchy has said to take thought into this cause and take due action.

FIFA World Cup or the Mundial is the carnival that every footballer wants to play in. Representing the country in the game is a matter of pride. Increasing the number of teams in the game may give chances to countries who may just ‘deliver a speech’ which is not uncommon in such competitions. The emergence of new players after the world cup has been a trend for ages, especially for a decade. It will be worth a wait to see how FIFA decides to conduct the most celebrated and awaited tournament.
