France files complaint to FIFA over Antoine Griezmann’s disallowed goal in disappointing loss to Tunisia

FFA demands complaint over Antoine Griezmann's disallowed goal against Tunisia

The French Football Federation (FFF) has demanded a clarification from FIFA regarding Antoine Griezmann’s disallowed goal in France’s 1-0 setback to Tunisia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Atletico Madrid star seemed to have equalized for Les Bleus in stoppage time, but the goal was eventually called off for an offside play in the lead-up following a VAR review.

This resulted in a triumph for their North African opponents, who sealed their greatest win of the contest but were denied a place in the round of 16 after Australia defeated Denmark in the other match. The FFF, France’s governing body, is now seeking clarification on the judgment, as the game was permitted to proceed after that, even though the laws assert otherwise.

The FFF posted a statement issuing their complaint. “We are writing a complaint after Antoine Griezmann’s goal was, in our opinion, wrongly disallowed. This complaint has to be filed within 24 hours after the final whistle,” the FFF stated in a statement as reported by ESPN.

The IFAB, the governing body of football, has stated that a VAR review of a goal cannot take effect after the match has resumed. Despite the outcome here, France won Group D with six points and a greater goal differential than Australia, which also finished with six points in three games.

France paid the price for their massive rotation

France vs Tunisia

France’s nine-game winning streak at the World Cup came to a halt in floppy style, but the defeat will only be remembered as a minor blip in their heritage. Head coach Didier Deschamps benched all key starters to make significant substitutions and allow the substitutes to shine in Qatar.

Les Bleus were poor against Tunisia from the start, and the arrival of players from the first squad in the second half wasn’t particularly beneficial either. To be reasonable to Deschamps, he strongly shuffled his team to offer his important players a rest before the knockout stages with an eye on the last-16 match.

In their fight on Sunday in the round of 16, the defending world champions will now take on Poland, who finished second in Group C. Amidst their noteworthy victory over France yesterday, Tunisia will leave the competition in third place. It is their sixth departure from the FIFA World Cup group stage on the whole.
