Glazer family set £4 billion price tag on Manchester United after latest fan protest against the regime: Reports

Glazers Out

Since the Glazers took over Manchester United in May 2005, when the owners of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers used loans to purchase the team, fans at Old Trafford were not pleased. Fans continued to demonstrate against American ownership even after United won the Premier League and the Champions League.

The team on the pitch, the Old Trafford facilities, and the club’s training facility have all declined in recent years without any investment from the owners, who continue to only take money out of the institution.

Former United board member Michael Knighton, who famously performed keep-ups on the field before a game and attempted to purchase the club in 1989, recently stated his desire to put together a consortium to purchase United from the Glazers.

The continued commercial power of the team, despite recent results, is the reason for the high valuation. However, it won’t be cheap; the Mirror reported last year that they would only sell for £4 billion.

Fans’ annoyance with the owners has only increased as a result of the team’s performances on the pitch, as they continue to lag rivals Manchester City and Liverpool both on and off the field. Erik ten Hag’s team is currently in last place in the Premier League after being humiliated 4-0 by Brentford on Saturday.

Manchester United supporters have planned a protest during their next fixture against Liverpool

Manchester United

Their upcoming game against Jurgen Klopp’s team on Monday, which is likely to see more protests, doesn’t make it any easier for them either. This week, the hashtag “Empty Old Trafford” began to trend as fans planned to leave the stadium empty for the match against their most ferocious rivals.

It would be the second significant protest for a game against Liverpool; in 2021, when no fans were permitted inside the stadium during the Covid season, supporters actually succeeded in getting the game against them postponed.

After losing to Brentford and Brighton in the first two weeks of the new league season, the team unquestionably needs a boost. Ten Hag is reportedly upset that he has only been able to bring in three of the five new players he was promised in the summer and is still desperately trying to sign more.
