“Horse manure”- Football pundit hits out at Chelsea owner’s proposals for All-star Premier League match

Craig Burley ridiculed Todd Boehly’s proposals to change the Premier League’s relegation system and introduce an American All-Star game, calling it “horse manure.”

This week, the chairman of Chelsea raised some questions when he said that American sports may teach the Premier League a thing or two. Boehly offered a Premier League All-Star North vs. South match and urged that relegation from the English top division be decided by a “four-team tournament” rather than the present three-down format.

Some of the biggest names in football, like Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, and Thierry Henry, were baffled by the suggestions. Burley, a current ESPN pundit and former Chelsea midfielder, dismissed the proposals and became the latest to criticize the American owner.

Burley said the 48-year-old knew nothing about relegation, since the notion does not exist in most US sports and that they “reward garbage” after Boehly said American sports might teach the top-flight a thing or two.

What Ex-Chelsea player had to say about new owner Todd Boehly’s suggestions?

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly

“Horse manure. Absolute horse manure,” he said on ESPN FC. “Let me point out some things here. He’s talking about relegation – and they do this in other leagues where they have playoffs in the relegation from different tiers – what American sport has relegation? Unless I’m missing something, the answer is none.”

“So what the hell does he know bout relegation? Because his sports don’t have it. What they do have over there, they reward not even mediocrity, they reward garbage. That’s what they do. You can finish bottom of the league in most of these sports and you get a bucket load of cash. You don’t get relegated.”
