Jurgen Klopp personally called Moises Caicedo after a deal was made with Brighton for £111million. Caicedo appreciated the offer sent by Liverpool but the Ecuadorian had only one destination in mind, Stamford Bridge.
The saga of Moisés Caicedo lasted for a bit as several clubs were battling for the midfielder’s signature. Arsenal bid £60m for the midfielder in January, at the same time a £55m bid from Chelsea was rejected by the ‘Seagulls‘. On March’23, Caicedo signed a 4-year contract renewal with Brighton giving the impression that the midfielder would not be leaving the club. Brighton however were still willing to negotiate for the midfielder demanding £80m for the player. Arsenal would then pull their interest in the player.
With Arsenal signing Declan Rice for £105m, Brighton believed that selling Caicedo for less than £100m was no longer a possibility. A new benchmark had been set. Liverpool bid £111m for the player which was accepted by Seagulls. Personal terms however had not been agreed yet, Jurgen Klopp made a phone call to Caicedo to lure him to Liverpool. Alas, Caicedo was adamant about Chelsea but stated he was flattered by the offer. Chelsea finally signed the player after bidding £115m for the 21-year-old. With a contract that keeps him at the club till 2031 with an option to extend till 2032, Caicedo joined the blue side of London.
Caicedo who only spent 2 years at the club, with one year on loan abroad, is labelled a major talent for his age. With Pochettino now at Chelsea’s helm, let’s see if the Ecuadorian can make good on his fee.

Moises Caicedo’s debut to forget at Chelsea
Caicedo’s debut for Chelsea came against West Ham. He understandably was not part of the first team as he did not practice with the team enough. While Chelsea seemed to be in control of the game, the score spoke a different story as the Blues were 2-1 down by the 53rd minute. Caicedo came on at the 61st minute of the game replacing Ben Chilwell. Fans were excited to see what impact the player would have.
Things did not go well. Chelsea were unable to break down the 10-man West Ham side. Caicedo’s debut ended in a nightmare as he gave away a penalty in the dying moments of the game. Lucas Paquetá made it 3-1 from the spot.
With a debut to forget, Moisés Caicedo will be looking to redeem himself when Chelsea host Luton Town on the 25th of August as part of the late kick-off.
