During Mallorca’s clash with title holders Real Madrid, Mallorca fans were reportedly filmed racially abusing Madrid’s star winger Vinicius Junior. Real Madrid lost the clash against Mallorca in a shocking 1-0 defeat on Sunday. Streaming service DAZN posted the video on social media where the fans were seen racially abusing Vinicius and calling him a ‘monkey’. Mallorca’s coach Javier Aguirre slammed the racial abuse in a post-match interview, stating he was ‘outraged’ by the name-calling.

Javier Aguirre, who is of Mexican origin, supported Vinicius Junior, disapproving of the chants of racial abuse towards the winger. “I am outraged by racist insults towards Vini, I’m Mexican & I don’t like disqualifying adjectives,” he stated. “It does not seem right to me & I will never approve it,” Aguirre further added. Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr has been racially abused on three different occasions in La Liga, including clashes with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Vinicius Junior even accused La Liga of not taking action against the constant racial abuse back in December. During Real’s clash with Valladolid, fans were reportedly throwing objects and chanting racial slogans against the Brazilian. Brazilian legends including Neymar Junior and Pele came to his defense after a panelist in Spain criticized his celebrations. The panelist reported that Vinicius disrespected his opponents with his dance moves, and compared his behavior with a monkey.

Brazilian Forwards Neymar Jr and Vinicius Jr have been fouled the most in Europe’s top 5 leagues this season.

The Spanish Police have been investigating a possible hate crime against Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior. A mannequin was found hanging with Junior’s iconic Number 20 jersey in front of their training center. This situation occurred two weeks ago, before their clash with arch-rivals Atletico Madrid. There was an Atletico banner next to the mannequin with “Madrid Hates Real,” written in red and white colors.

Real Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti and the Madrid squad have been appealing to the authorities of La Liga to protect Vinicius Junior from a possible ‘hunt’ by the opponents in the league. Vinicius Junior has suffered a shocking 79 fouls this season which is the most for any player in Europe’s top 5 leagues while his countryman Neymar Junior comes at the second spot with a huge margin, having suffered 59 fouls with PSG.

Real Madrid currently sits in the second position, after their loss against Mallorca increased their gap from first-positioned Barcelona to 8 points. The Galacticos face Elche in their next league match on February 16, as they will look to close the gap and aim for all three points. While their star forward Benzema is undergoing examinations after picking up an injury against Valencia.
