“I can focus on chess and Barcelona on the Europa League”- Chess Grandmaster brutally trolls Barcelona after Champions League exit

World Chess Champion and maestro Magnus Carlsen took a hit back at his favorite club and made a funny statement on their recent exit from the Champions League even before the match against Bayern Munich started. Carlsen tweeted, ” Good thing the Inter game is not close so that I can focus on chess and Barcelona on the Europa League.”

Five-time champion Barcelona was eliminated from the group stage of the Champions League for the second year running even before they could play Bayern. The news was confirmed when Inter Milan thrashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 in an earlier match. Barcelona needed Inter to lose points against Viktoria Plzen and had to win both their remaining matches against Bayern and Viktoria Plzen.

Bayern and Inter will progress to the next round while Barcelona will have to play in the Europa League. Barcelona was the favorites in the competition last season but lost to eventual champion Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarterfinal stage. This marks yet another low in the history of Barcelona and despite a great transfer window last summer, the club has failed to go past the group stage.

What did Xavi have to say about the recent slump in form of his club?

Rober Lewandowski in action against his former club last night.

Xavi was supportive of his players and also backed his team to come back stronger again next year, “It’s a shame because we had high expectations in this competition. It was a complicated group, and everything went against us. This Champions League has been very cruel to us.”

Julian Nagelsmann said, “I don’t think Barça were expecting us to be so bold. The team made a statement tonight.” Questions will be asked against the board and the manager, Xavi on what went wrong. The club spent a lot of money on new players and made a great addition to their squad and still couldn’t fight for the elite competition.
