“I knew that Kylian Mbappe wanted to stay at PSG”- Nasser Al Khelaifi reveals why he rejected Real Madrid’s 180 million offer last summer
Kylian Mbappe
Most thought PSG was crazy to reject a €180 million bid for Kylian Mbappe last summer knowing that the player could leave for free the following year. However, PSG eventually came out on top after tying down Kylian Mbappe with a new deal just a few weeks back.
The Frenchman’s transfer saga was one of the most anticipated and shocking. It was almost certain that Kylian Mbappe would be playing for the Los Blancos next season but he eventually decided to extend his stay in the French capital. Something PSG president, Nasser Al Khelaifi claims he knew would happen.
“He chose his city” – PSG president on Kylian Mbappe’s new contract
Speaking to MARCA, Nasser Al Khelaifi said, “I rejected 180 million last summer from Real Madrid because I knew that Kylian wanted to stay at PSG. I know him very well, I know what he and his family want, and they don’t move for money.”
“He has chosen to play here for his city, his club and his country, and for the sports project. He only thinks about playing and winning.” The PSG president also spoke about Javier Tebas’ comments saying, “What we do, we do because we know that we can.”
“It is not our style to talk about other leagues, clubs or federations. We are not giving lessons and we are not going to allow anyone to give us lessons. Every year is the same. We are going to continue building our project.”
The president concluded the interview by talking about the Super League. He said the idea is dead and PSG would never participate in something like that. As for now, the president’s main focus is the appointment of a new manager at PSG to lead the team.
