“I’d never even heard of him”- Cristiano Ronaldo takes dig at Ralf Rangnick over his appointment as Manchester United manager

In the interview with Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo revealed a lot of inside stories about the club and the chief executives as well. He has also spoken out about the spirit and mentality of the club since Sir Alex Ferguson left and that nothing has changed. He talked about the managers he played under in his second spell at the club and bashed the club’s decision to hire Ralf Rangnick as the manager.

After the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the club hired Rangnick as the interim manager for the rest of the season and this raised a lot of eyebrows as Rangnick was someone who never coached a big club before and he was a sporting director at the time. The fans knew that the Portuguese would not fit into the plans of Rangnick and it was only time before the bad blood between them grew.

Cristiano Ronaldo said, “After Ole, they bring in sport directive Ralf Rangnick, which is something nobody understands. This guy is not even a coach. A big club like Manchester United bringing in a sport directive surprised not only me but all the world. If you’re not even a coach, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I’d never even heard of him.”

What went wrong with Ralf Ragnick?

Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy with Ralf Ragnick after being substituted.

The relationship between Ronaldo and Rangnick was not all great at the club and Ronaldo wasn’t receiving enough game time under him and was considerably been dropped from crucial matches. He also believed that Rangnick did not have the ability to manage the club and is out of his depth considering Man United’s standards.

There was also an incident that angered Ronaldo a lot when Ragnick accused him of not performing in front of the goal despite being the top scorer of the team last season. And Rangnick couldn’t achieve great things with the club and couldn’t live up to the expectations of the club having been knocked out of the Champions League and the FA Cup and also not qualifying for the Champions League spot for next season.
