“Just Arab countries/cultures that trouble you?” Piers Morgan calls out European media for their hypocrisy over the coverage of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup

“Just Arab countries/cultures that trouble you?” Piers Morgan calls out European media for their hypocrisy over the coverage of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup

Piers Morgan.

Piers Morgan has recently called out the BBC’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar and the people who turned on their T.V. to watch the event instead found Gary Lineker delivering a speech where he was criticizing Qatar’s treatment of migrant workers and also bashed their record on human rights.

He also continued to speak about why this year’s World Cup is the most controversial one and that it wouldn’t be a successful tournament. Piers Morgan replied to Gary Lineker and replied to him saying that his comments were “outrageously disrespectful to Qatar”. He also accused him of “virtue signaling” on his Twitter handle.

He wrote on Twitter, “Outrageously disrespectful to Qatar that the BBC didn’t broadcast the World Cup opening ceremony, and instead put out more virtue-signaling guff about how awful it is. If they’re that appalled, they should bring home their vast army of employees and spare us this absurd hypocrisy.”

A few days ago Gary Neville talked about his eagerness and his decision to travel to Qatar for commentating on the World Cup matches. He said, “My view always has been, you either highlight the issues and challenges in these countries, and speak about them, or you basically don’t say anything and stay back home, and don’t go. And I’ve always said we should challenge them.”

BBC had replied to Piers Morgan writing, “Just like previous tournaments, we haven’t shown the opening ceremony on BBC One. Full build-up and coverage of the World Cup have been available across the BBC, including the opening ceremony on iPlayer.” The tournament has kicked off successfully and after two days of incredible support from the entire world, it is expected to be yet another great World Cup.
