Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly reveals the reasons behind her move to the Saudi side Al Hilal. Koulibaly left the Premier League giants Chelsea as he made a shocking move to the Saudi Pro League for €23 million.
After completing the move to Al Hilal, Koulibaly in a recent interview opened up about the reasons behind the move. When asked if the move was about the huge amount of money, the defender said, “I can’t deny it. I will be able to help my whole family to live well, from my parents to my cousins, and support the activities of my Capitaine du Coeur association in Senegal. We started building a clinic in my parents’ village. I have many projects to help young people.”
Koulibaly was then asked about moving to Saudi Arabia after spending a lot of time in Europe. To this Koulibaly replied, “I am a Muslim, I am arriving in an ideal country for me and my family.”
The defender was then asked about the situation at Chelsea he faced prior to his move. He said, “I don’t like being on the bench doing nothing. I prefer to go where I am really wanted.”
Koulibaly was a part of the list of players Chelsea put up for sale prior to balancing their books for the FFP rules. He joined the club in 2022 for €38 million from the Italian side Napoli. He played 32 games for the Blues. Koulibaly scored two goals and also had an assist to his name during his time at the club.

Kalidou Koulibaly’s former club set to open talks with Brighton star Moises Caicedo
Chelsea is reportedly set to strike a deal to sign Moises Caicedo by opening talks with Brighton in the next 24 hours. The Seagulls are ready to let go of the midfielder this summer and have set an £80m asking price for the Ecuador international.
The Blues until now in this transfer window have spent time offloading players. They have so far sold Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz. This has reportedly helped the club to offset the club’s £600m outlay across the last two windows. Now the club is looking toward incoming transfers.
According to reports, incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino has identified central midfield as an area to bolster the team. Chelsea has identified Caicedo as a top priority target this summer. Brighton has set their asking price for Caicedo at £80 million. Chelsea and Caicedo have reportedly reached an agreement over the player’s personal terms.
