“Good to see you with the smile,” Kylian Mbappe congratulates Jadon Sancho and Manchester United on winning Carabao Cup
Kylian Mbappe's brotherhood with Jadon Sancho produced a moment of pleasantness
PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe‘s brotherhood with Jadon Sancho produced a moment of pleasantness as the French forward congratulated Sancho on winning the Carabao Cup. Mbappe commented on Sancho’s post on Instagram hinting at his better mental health.
Jadon Sancho came on as a late substitute in the Cup final against Newcastle United. Manchester United was already winning the match 2-0 at the time he came on. Ten Hag deputised the wideman in the midfield to increase the energy of the team and as a threat on the counter.
Sancho posted a picture with the trophy tagging Marcus Rashford. Mbappe commented on the photo, “good to see you with the smile.” Mbappe’s comment presumably alludes to Sancho’s long fight with physical and mental health earlier this season.
Jadon Sancho’s move to Manchester United
The winger joined Manchester United on the back of an immensely productive season with Borussia Dortmund. He was involved in 36 goals for BVB and won the DFB Pokal. His partnership with Haaland saw him become one of the most desired youngsters in Europe.
Although his performance in the Euro 2021 for England was not impressive, as he also missed in the penalty shootout against Italy in the final, things were looking up. A Manchester City academy graduate, Sancho moved to their arch-rivals, Manchester United in 2021.
Things didn’t go as planned as the 22-year-old found himself amidst a United side lacking in confidence and flair. Sancho had one of the most difficult times of his professional career as he contributed to just eight goals in 38 games in the season.

Jadon Sancho’s Four-Month-Absence This Season
The current season also started with much confusion despite the arrival of Dutch coach Eric Ten Hag. Starting the season with a couple of woeful losses, Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan and other external reasons made Old Trafford a gloomy place.
However, things started to change after four wins in a row including beating Liverpool and Arsenal. Ten Hag showed his proficiency in handling difficult situations with expertise. After seeing the Ronaldo-storm off, Ten Hag also benched an underperforming Harry Maguire.
Amidst all of this, Sancho was also sent for improvement in an unprecedented move. Ten Hag allowed Sancho an extended period of absence in which Sancho went to train in solitude, concentrating on his strengths. This has also brought his confidence back.
Since returning, Sancho has played in various positions in the frontline and has scored two goals in three matches.
Jadon Sancho’s playing style
Jadon Sancho, unlike traditional English wingers, is not a fast and direct player. He is an intricate passer who thrives in congested areas.
Sancho loves to play short passes infield, bounce them off of his teammates and beat defenders with short bursts of pace and rapid changes of direction. Even in his worst season, Sancho has been among the top 10% of wingers with 4.7 carries per 90.
He has also created 4.12 shots per 90 with 5.28 touches inside the penalty box. His high pass completion rate of 84% despite attempting 41.7 passes while 9.5 of them being forward, shows that Sancho is a very good passer. Perhaps Ten Hag has identified these attributes as one of a good attacking midfielder. Sancho has been seen playing in the number 10 run on frequent occasions. Would Sancho be able to adapt to the pace and defensive solidity of the PL or will he have to be replaced in the coming transfer window will be one of the most important questions that will shape his career.
