Speaking in a recent interview, La Liga Chief Javier Tebas, reportedly chose Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest of all time in football. Tebas also spoke out about his desire to see Lionel Messi back in the Spanish league. The La Liga chief reportedly said that bringing Messi back to Barcelona would be something very good for La Liga as well.
In the interview, Tebas said, “Lionel Messi is the best player in the history of football. I would like Messi to come back and I want him to be in Barcelona. I hope we can rebuild the Barça-Messi brand. It would be very good for La Liga.” He then added to the context by saying that many things would need changes to make the Messi-Barcelona reunion possible.
Chief Tebas was one of the reasons why Messi and Barcelona had to split due to the club’s poor financial condition. Tebas has not been very kind to Barcelona in recent times either. With numerous allegations rising of unfair use of power and money by the previous hierarchy of the club, Tebas has been seen to take digs at Barcelona and the new club hierarchy, as per reports. But it’s Tebas’s “Messi is the greatest footballer” statement that is quite surprising for the whole world. This is because back in 2021, Tebas was the one who refused Barcelona’s request to increase their pay cap so that they could keep Messi at Barcelona, as per the report. Javier Tebas, back then, reportedly said that according to him, no one player is bigger than the league or the rules.
This sudden change in Tebas is being termed as ‘hypocrisy’. While others call it “a last-ditch effort to get back La Liga viewership to where it earlier was“, as per reports. It is to be seen if Messi does make a return back to Camp Nou. Or will he take up some new adventure elsewhere?

La Liga president Javier Tebas says, “I don’t believe Barcelona bought any referee.”
Javier Tebas never misses an opportunity to talk about the ‘Negreira case’ although this time he reportedly has been more benevolent than usual towards Barcelona. The president of La Liga has reportedly said that he does not believe in any way that the Catalan club uses the money to buy any referee.
Tebas said, “I don’t think Barça have bought referees, but they did pay Negreira when he was vice-president of the committee. And this is a fact”. With this statement, he once again insisted on the necessity for Joan Laporta to give explanations to the club’s social. Javier Tebas then reportedly added that Barcelona is a very important club for the Spanish league hiding is the solution to Barcelona’s problem and they must give an explaination, especially to their socials.
Going further in the interview, Tebas also reportedly assured that he does not question in any way the success Barça has achieved in recent years despite the information regarding the payments. He said, “I do not question Barça’s success. Neither the treble nor the sextet. But there is conduct that has to be judged“. And in this sense, the president of LaLiga has taken care to emphasize that the case is time-barred in sporting terms, so no punishment can be applied. But he has remarked that if that was not the case, “it could have ended with expulsion from the league or relegation.“
