Lionel Messi hasn’t yet responded to his former FC Barcelona teammates messages congratulating him for the World Cup win
Lionel Messi is set to extend PSG contract dropping his homecoming rumors down.
Lionel Messi and Sergi Roberto at FC Barcelona
Following his role in leading Argentina to the 2022 World Cup, Messi has earned widespread praise as the greatest footballer in history. Despite leaving Barcelona in 2021, Messi remains a club legend, and Catalonia rejoiced as he ultimately won the one title that had eluded him for many years.
Now FC Barcelona player Sergi Roberto, one of the club captains, has disclosed that he has not received a response from former teammate Lionel Messi. Sergi congratulated Lionel Messi on his 2022 FIFA World Cup success. Lionel Messi has devoted a significant part of his life to the Catalan club.
Speaking to RAC1 via Barca Universal, Roberto disclosed that he texted Messi after the championship. He also expressed his desire to see the attacker return to Camp Nou. “I wanted Leo to win the World Cup if Spain didn’t win, I’m happy for him. I congratulated Messi, but he has not responded to me yet,” he said. “I want [Messi to return], but it’s complicated because I read that he will renew with PSG. I haven’t spoken to him, but I’m sure that he won’t like any other club as much as Barca. It’s his boyhood club,”.
Messi would have gotten a slew of messages following his victory in Qatar. Understandably, he hasn’t had time to reply to them, so Roberto shouldn’t take the situation personally. Regarding Leo’s comeback, it does appear that the Argentine will agree to a contract extension with the Parisians. Barcelona hasn’t formally asked him about a comeback amid the expressed interest.
Lionel Messi set to extend his contract at Paris Saint-Germain
Lionel Messi allegedly negotiated with French team Paris Saint-Germain to prolong his tenure in the French capital following Argentina’s triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In December, the 35-year-old earned a World Cup championship to his collection, securing his place as the finest player in history.
He will immediately try to lead PSG to Champions League success, which he has already achieved, but the team has not. On December 21, 2022, Fabrizio Romano stated that Messi had accepted a possible extension with PSG, rejecting other bids from groups worldwide, notably Inter Miami of the MLS. It now looks like his spell will be prolonged.
Messi’s post-World Cup holiday will be used to sort over the details of his new deal, including how long it will last and how much money he will make in this extra year. Although there have been fresh speculations connecting the attacker with a transfer outside of France, it is thought that the two sides left it abundantly clear at the start of the month that they intended to keep cooperating.
