Ligue 1 has dropped off the list of Top five League list this year, according to a recent publication by UEFA. Apart from PSG’s nuclear dominance over the league, none of the Ligue 1 clubs has managed to impress in the continental tournaments over the last five years. They are replaced by the Belgian Pro League at their spot. Ligue 1 is currently at the seventh spot in the ranking.

The list, published earlier this week, ranked the Premier League as the top tournament in Europe. This came right after Manchester City won the treble and English teams became dominant in recent years after years of Spanish rule. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City are among the winners in the past five years. Also, in the same timeframe, the UCL has seen two all-English finals in the tournament. Spanish La Liga has also seen a shocking drop to the fourth spot with Serie A (Italy) and Bundesliga (Germany) making up the top three leagues.

The calculation is determined by the sum of each country’s European performance over the last five years. Although France is projected as the fifth rank holder in the UEFA Top 5 list calculated on the basis of the past five years’ performances by the clubs of each league. And calculations reportedly show that France has fallen below the Netherlands into sixth place. French teams now need to outperform the Dutch teams in the new season to regain their fifth spot.

In the 2022/23 season, PSG crashed out of the Champions League round of 16. While Marseille were at the bottom of their group and didn’t even move to the later stages of the competition. AS Monaco, Nantes, and Stade Rennes were all knocked out of in the first knockout round of the Europa League. Only OGC Nice went on to the Quarter Finals of the Europa League.

Ligue 1 has also suffered a loss in terms of stars as Messi and Ramos have both left the league. This might also have an adverse effect on the viewership of the league. When Messi joined PSG, the league viewership significantly saw growth but now his absence and the absence of Ramos might make things worse for the league which is already falling short of the top 5 league list.

French defender Lucas Hernández joins PSG from Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich. The deal was reportedly in place since last week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Hernandez has joined PSG on a permanent transfer that was agreed upon between both clubs. The transfer fees are between €48million to €50 million in total package. Personal terms were already agreed between Hernández and PSG. The French Champions were always his top target to move to once he left Bayern.

Bayern Munich hierarchy didn’t really want to sell Hernandez. But the new board was very firm with their decision, the player either had to sign a new contract with the club. Or he would have been sold as soon as possible. Hernandez seems to have chosen the second option.
