FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta claimed that the club is still paying their club’s most decorated star ever, Lionel Messi. Barcelona tried to bring Mesi back to the club after he announced his decision of leaving the Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain following a two-season stint at the club, however, that was not possible as Barcelona are still not out of their financial restructuring, therefore, Messi joined MLS side Inter Miami.

In a recent interview, Laporta stated that Barcelona is still paying the deferred dues of the fees to Messi. And the payments are set to be regular until 2025. He said, “We have outstanding payments to Messi until 2025. What is owed to him is the deferral of the wage bill that was agreed with the previous board and that produces outstanding payments that end in 2025. He is paid religiously.”

Barcelona President Joan Laporta reportedly confirmed Deco’s appointment as the club’s new Sporting Director to be just a matter of time. The legendary Portuguese midfielder of the club was reportedly working for the club for quite some time now.

Deco reportedly worked as a scout for Barcelona and as an agent for several players as well. Although, it seems he would leave that trade to manage Barcelona’s recruitment department with Mateu Alemany.

In a recent interview with La Vanguarda, Laporta declared that Deco would be taking up a new position at the club. He said, “We will announce Deco’s arrival in mid-July. He will perform the role of Txiki Begiristain in my first stage.”

The President then talked about the club’s relationship with the agents like Pini Zahivi and Jorge Mendes. He said, “There is a relationship that goes back many years and they helped us. Most of the representatives want to be on good terms with Barca, with a relationship of respect, I’m also thinking of Ivan de la Pena. With respect to football, you don’t really get more belligerent agents. Sometimes it has been the case in other sports.”
