Argentina and Manchester United sensation Lisandro Martinez has recently been in the news for winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He celebrated the win with his teammates and fellow citizens back in Buenos Aires. With the club football season resuming again, all the players are coming back to their respective teams.
And so was the case for Martinez, who has been a pivotal figure at Manchester United since his arrival. But he had a difficult choice, having been invited to the wedding of his close friend and Argentine team buddy, Nicolas Tagliafico. The defender returned to England to resume training with United and get back into shape.
He missed the wedding and returned to Old Trafford as coach Erik ten Hag had reminded him of his responsibilities and how important his role is at the club. Having missed the match against Nottingham Forest, Martinez hopes to return against the Wolves this weekend.
What did Erik Ten Hag say about Lisandro Martinez returning to the club as fast as possible?
Having missed Tuesday’s match against Nottingham Forest, Erik ten Hag felt that Martinez has taken a long gap and that he must be returning to the club like other teammates. Ten Hag said, “He has been celebrating in Buenos Aires, and I can understand that. It’s the highest you can achieve.”
He added, “Lisandro Martinez has to accept that on the 27th, the Premier League will go on.” Ten Hag also talked about Varane, who returned way before Martinez despite playing the final, saying, “‘Of course [Varane] is disappointed about losing, but I think also he can be proud that he was again in the final and of all that he achieved already in his career.”
Erik Ten Hag had to play three fullbacks in a makeshift defense in the 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest as the squad was missing many vital players, and many players were also suffering from illness. Martinez took to his social media to show his support for the team. He shared an image of him watching the game back home on Television.
