Piers Morgan slyly mocked Lionel Messi following Argentina’s 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in the first match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on November 22. Recently, FIFA World Cup posted a tweet with a photo of Lionel Messi, asking fans to use one word to describe him. Piers Morgan then reposted the tweet with the caption, ‘Lost-to-Saudi-Arabia-Man’.

Saudi Arabia shocked the world when they pulled off an incredible upset by beating competition favorites Argentina in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. After Messi scored a penalty ten minutes in, Argentina seemed to be in control as they put the ball in the net three more times before the halftime whistle, though every goal was ruled offside.

Lionel Messi was located in the middle of a victorious post-match circle as Argentina’s team members jumped around in elation at qualifying for the World Cup quarterfinals. Messi achieved another triumph for his nation, scoring his first-ever FIFA World Cup knockout stage goal in the 1,000th match of his noteworthy career, propelling Argentina to a 2-1 victory over Australia on Saturday.

The match against the lower-ranked Australians was expected to be a walkover, but at the end of the day, Argentina was just thankful they had their goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who made an incredible save in the last seconds to avoid additional time and a potential upset in the World Cup.

Messi made Argentina’s lead with a majestic kick in the 35th minute, earning his 3rd goal in the tournament and 9th overall at the World Cup, surpassing Diego Maradona’s total of eight. Julián Álvarez took advantage of Mathew Ryan’s misstep to score the second goal and secure a quarterfinal matchup with the Netherlands.
