Manchester City beats Manchester United in getting exquisite deal for 2028 Euro Cup

Manchester City‘s Etihad Stadium is set to be named as one of the stadiums in the United Kingdom and Ireland’s bid to host the Euro 2028 tournament. However, Manchester United‘s Old Trafford was not named in the 14 stadium shortlist which will later be cut down to 10.

Speaking about the bid, FA’s Chief Executive Mark Bullingham stated: “We are going to submit a very strong bid. I don’t think there are any big gaps on anything. We believe we’ve got a solution. We’ll have to work through that with UEFA and check that they’re comfortable with how far we’re able to go.”

As per reports, the reason why the Etihad was chosen over their city rivals stadium is due to their new plans to renovate the facility. Manchester City revealed their plans to expand the North Stand which would see the capacity of the stadium increase from 53,400 to 60,000.

Old Trafford was not selected in the shortlist as renovations to the ground are long overdue. Last month, it was reported that the toilets at the stadium were clogged with urine which led to the club receiving scrutiny from fans.

Manchester City is arguably the best club in England currently winning four Premier Leagues in the last five years. However, they have not been able to win the Champions League in their 129 year history. Manager Pep Guardiola will look to boost his squad for next season in a bid to win the coveted trophy.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is on top of the Citizens list as they look to strengthen their midfield. Skipper Ilkay Gundogan is tipped to leave in the summer and Bellingham is considered to be the ideal replacement for the German.

RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol is also on City’s list for the summer. The center back was a consistent performer for Croatia at the World Cup where they finished third. With Aymeric Laporte reportedly leaving when the season ends, Gvardiol’s inclusion could be perfect for the squad.
