Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag frustrated with £100 million signing for not following orders

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag frustrated with £100 million signing for not following orders

During Sunday’s 6-3 thrashing by Manchester City, Manchester United’s £85million signing Antony allegedly disobeyed Erik ten Hag’s directions to track back and aid the defence. On a humiliating afternoon for United, the Brazilian winger did score at the Etihad Stadium, but he didn’t appear to play enough defence.

According to The Sun, Ten Hag explicitly informed Antony that when United were under pressure from City, he would have to support Diogo Dalot. Training sessions before the derby and again right before the game were used to drive home that message. But Antony seemed to have forgotten this part of his strategy, leaving both his management and Dalot furious.

As he was frequently exposed by Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva, right-back Dalot was seen arguing with Antony, who joined United from Ten Hag’s old team Ajax in the summer. Dalot had to balance his disciplinary responsibilities while City launched waves of attack after he fouled Grealish in just the second minute.

Left-back In the first half, as City made superb use of the flanks, Tyrell Malacia was also issued a booking. On his side, Jadon Sancho wasn’t much more effective at tracking back than Antony. In an Instagram post, former United player Paul Scholes hinted to Antony and Sancho’s slack performance. Accompanied by a picture of his former United team-mates Ryan Giggs and David Beckham, Scholes wrote: “Anyone remember when wingers used to help their full-backs?

Manchester United legend blasts Erik ten Hag for ‘disrespecting’ Cristiano Ronaldo

Ten Hag inexplicably said that the reason Ronaldo was not introduced versus City was “out of respect for his tremendous career.” But United great Roy Keane asserted on Sky Sports that the action simply showed Ronaldo the opposite: “I think Man United are showing disrespect to Ronaldo. I think he should have been let go before the [closing] of the window.”

“Okay, you’re the manager, you need options but you don’t hold onto Ronaldo to sit on the bench. He’s one of the greatest players ever. He’s played him in one or two European games. It’s just going to get uglier as the season goes on. If he’s sitting on the bench for United, week in, week out it’s just going to get uglier. I think United have shown nothing but disrespect to Ronaldo.”
