Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wins Premier League’s Manager of the month for September
Erik Ten Hag has been a revelation for Manchester United.
After a disastrous start to the season, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been crowned the Premier League Manager of the Month for September after pulling off a stunning comeback. In September, United defeated an Arsenal team that had been riding a similarly strong winning streak and Leicester in both of their Premier League games.
Since suffering back-to-back losses in August, United has now won four league games in a row. Ten Hag, who joined the Premier League in the summer after leaving Ajax, has only been in charge for two months. He is the first Dutchman to receive the award since Ronald Koeman in January 2016.
No United manager has won it since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2019, nearly four years ago. Koeman was a multiple-time winner during his successful tenure with Southampton. Martin Jol is the only other Dutch coach to have been selected manager of the month in the Premier League.
Ten Hag won this honour earlier in his Premier League career than Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp did in theirs. Ten Hag defeated Spurs manager Antonio Conte and interim Bournemouth coach Gary O’Neil to win the prize
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford won Premier League’s September Player of the Month
The Premier League’s Player of the Month for September 2022 is Marcus Rashford. In the month, the 24-year-old played twice and contributed to all four of United’s goals.
Rashford provided the assist in United’s 1-0 victory over Leicester. Then, in a fantastic performance that saw him score twice and provide an assist in the team’s 3-1 victory over table-topping Arsenal, he won the POTM award for the first time since January 2019.
