The boxing world was recently shaken when Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez threatened to take on Argentine star Lionel Messi. The response was quick and decisive, with many of Messi’s fellow Argentines coming to his defense. Perhaps the most vocal of the bunch was Ezequiel Matias, an Argentine boxer who made it clear that the threat was not to be taken lightly.

Matias, who himself is a professional boxer and has a record of 5-2-2, was quick to respond to Alverz’s comments. In a post on his social media accounts, Matias proclaimed that an attack on Messi was an attack on all Argentines. He further stated that he would be willing to take on Alverz himself if that’s what it took to protect his countryman.

Matias also declared that he was not scared of a fight with Alverz, and that if the Mexican boxer was truly serious, he should be willing to face the consequences. He further stated that he was more than confident in his own ability to take on Alverz, and that the fight would be a fair one.

Lionel Messi has received a warning from Mexican boxer Saul Canelo Alvarez after he was accused of showing contempt for Mexico. “Did you see Messi cleaning the floor with our shirt and flag?” Alvarez tweeted. Apparently, in response to a video showing Messi and his teammates celebrate in the locker room. The footage appears to capture Messi’s foot making touch with a Mexico shirt lying on the ground as the Argentine takes off his football boots. There is no proof that Messi deliberately kicked the shirt. Alvarez also added “He better pray to God that I don’t find him!!”.
