Edinson Cavani says put the Ghana match referee in jail

Uruguay international Edinson Cavani has called up FIFA to put referee Daniel Siebert in ‘jail’ following his team’s controversial exit from the FIFA World Cup. The 35-year-old was part of the team which defeated Ghana in their final group match in Qatar. The 2-0 win was not enough as South Korea scored a late winner against Portugal to progress further on goal margin.

With such small margins on the table, a number of decisions made by Siebert, the match referee, caught the attention. Cavani along with other Uruguay players was left furious with the official after he denied awarding a penalty against Ghana. Scenes got ugly as players chased the official down the tunnel after the full-time whistle.

Cavani was so furious that he even punched a VAR monitor after his team’s elimination. He was shown a yellow card for his post-match protest along with teammate Jose Maria Gimenez, who elbowed a FIFA official amid the protests.

They have to put him in jail. But if they penalize me for hitting the VAR, the referee, for having taken us out of the World Cup, they have to put him in jail,” said Cavani justifying Siebert made “errors” despite the presence of VAR to Marca.

It worries me. Yes, of course, it worries me because it would be out of competition with my teammates, my club, and my team. It worries me,” Cavani added when asked about the possibility of facing sanctions following the Ghana game.

Where is Edison Cavani playing after Manchester United?

Edinson Cavani for Valencia

Former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani signed for Spanish club Valencia on a two-year deal. The 35-year-old joined the La Liga club after playing 2 years at Old Trafford.

People stop me in the streets of Valencia and thank me for coming. No… The grateful one is me. Being able to defend the Valencia shirt is a privilege for me,” said Cavani on playing for Valencia.

Cavani turned down offers from Boca Juniors and Penarol. During his stint with the Red Devils, he scored 17 goals in 39 appearances. However, his exit from the club was followed up by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. The forward left the club after the expiry of his contract.
