Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti calls Manchester City ‘favorites’ to win Champions League, says English teams ‘compete very well’

Carlo Ancelotti is least concerned about Manchester City being the favourites to win the Champions League this season. The Real Madrid boss said that the English clubs always play well and it is not a big deal. In the few years, there are teams outside the Premier League who have taken teams to the semifinals. The Italian points towards Spanish teams and Italian teams qualifying for the semifinals of the Champions League.

‘The English think they have the strongest league, but outside there are other leagues that continue to compete with less money, such as Spain and Italy’ said the Italian during the interview.

The Italian boss has returned to the Spanish club in 2021. The 63 years old manager was formerly the manager of Los Blancos back in 2013-2015. The Italian boss has already won La Liga and Champions League titles with the Spanish giants. The Madrid-based team is eyeing to win it again consecutively after defeating the Blues in the first leg. The Spanish team is just 90 minutes away from unlocking the semifinals Door. The Los Blancos are also waiting to win their Copa Del Rey after 9 long years.

Ancelotti also at the same time hints at how strong the Italian teams are. He points out that this time there would be Italian teams to play in the Semi-Finals. Two of three Serie A sides Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Napoli would be arguably there in the Semi-Final rounds. Earlier there have been instances of Italian teams defeating League Giants, the example of AS Roma defeating Barcelona in an unbelievable comeback be forgotten.

The Italian boss has warned his team not to be overconfident with first-leg performance. The Spanish team secured a 2-0 victory against their English opponent. Vinicius Junior was named the performer of the match providing two assists to Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.

The performance of Real Madrid has made the Italian tactician happy. Don Carlo was quick to identify that his team could have scored two more if Modric and Benzema kept his header and the curler on target.

The former Chelsea boss says the team needs to ‘fight and sacrifice’ in order to win the second leg. The defending Champions League-winning manager was quick to identify the heavyweights of Southampton Park.

For now in the battle between the teacher and student,  the former takes the greater lead over the latter. Chelsea caretaker Frank Lampard needs to find new strategies to end the team’s goal drought for the last four games in all competitions. More the Blues need to find goal-poaching options against a vigilant Real Madrid who are already knocking on the doors of the semifinals.
