With reports that Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave the club in 2024, Real Madrid has begun the search for a potential replacement and Xabi Alonso has appeared to be the top choice. It is understood that the Real Madrid gaffer is keen on a move to the Brazil National Team after his time at Santiago Bernabeu. The Italian has enjoyed success with the Los Blancos, winning the Champions League twice during his tenure as coach.
Real Madrid is set to bring in former player and legend, Xabi Alonso as a potential replacement for the 64-year-old. The Spaniard is currently the head coach of Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and his contact with the club extends until 2026. Alonso and Leverkusen are currently enjoying a good run of form. They sit 2nd in the Bundesliga, only behind Bayern Munich.
When asked about taking the Madrid job back in July, Real Madrid legend, Xabi Alonso said that his focus was on Leverkusen at the moment. He answered, “Real Madrid? Everything in its own time.” He added that his current objective was to qualify for the Champions League with Leverkusen. Alonso’s return to the Bernabeu is highly anticipated, both by fans and Pundits alike.
“It’s all my fault”: Carlo Ancelotti admits mistake vs Atletico Madrid
Real Madrid suffered their first loss of the season against Atletico Madrid. The rivals faced off in the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium with the home side prevailing 3-1 on the night. In an unexpected defeat, head coach Carlo Ancelotti came forward, taking all the blame for their first defeat of the season.“It’s all my fault,” said the Italian head coach after the game.
Real conceded 3 near-identical goals against Atletico. All 3 goals were scored from uncontested headers and from crosses coming in from the left. Ancelotti also added, “I won’t be changing the system but rather help us to fix some things.” Real often lacked their creativity and resorted to long shots outside the box. Ancelotti also replaced Aurélien Tchouaméni for the game.
The loss put an end to Real’s perfect start to the season. Arch-rivals FC Barcelona also went ahead, and now sit atop the table with 16 points in 6 games. Real are 3rd, behind Girona who also have 16 points. Ancelotti’s side take on Las Palmas at home on Tuesday, looking to get back to winning ways.
