Brazilian international and Al-Ahli captain Roberto Firmino was met with heartbreaking news on Saturday night. José Roberto Cordeiro de Oliveira, the player’s 62-year-old father met an untimely demise during a trip to Dubai. Reports suggest that he succumbed to a heart attack on Saturday while he was on a trip with his family. The news of the sad demise was broken by Brazilian media outlet UOL, which close friends and family then confirmed.

Roberto Firmino, the former Hoffenheim and Liverpool star made his move to Saudi after running down his contract with the Reds. The player has mentioned his close relationship with his father in his memoir – ‘Si Señor – My Liverpool Years‘.

He praised his dad as his childhood hero and an inspiration. Describing him as kind, honest, and genuine, a true family man. The football club CRB, where Firmino began playing, shared their condolences for his dad. They wrote in a post:

The club deeply regrets the passing of José Roberto, who left us this weekend. Rest in peace, José Roberto.

The player and family are currently in contact with the Brazilian embassy in Dubai to bring his father’s body back to their hometown, Maceió.

Pictures and videos posted on her story show the family and others, posing for a group picture. The caption read:

Firmino’s father is also seen in the picture. In another video, José Roberto is seen enjoying himself with 2 little children on a ‘toy car’. In yet another video, the late José Roberto is seen in high spirits as he holds a child in his arm and waves to a rotating ‘dolly camera’. It was only hours later that the tragic incident occurred, following which she posted a reel, in memory of the Brazil international’s late father.

Following the tragic passing, condolences have poured in on social media. Several Liverpool fan groups and accounts have offered their thoughts to the family at this moment. Known as ‘Papa Firmino’, the player has shared several images in the past of his father and his ‘undying’ support for his son during his time in Merseyside.
