Manchester City fans would know just how crucial Rodri is to Pep Guardiola‘s squad. The Spaniard has been referred to as the ‘glue’ to this treble-winning side. The Man City #16 narrowly escaped injury against Fluminese in the Club World Cup final on Saturday. The midfielder looked back on the foul and made the admission that it was one of the harshest he suffered. Images of the tackle reveal that Rodri was lucky to walk away from the challenge unharmed.
Manchester City beat Fluminense 4-0 at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium. Rodri was substituted in the 74th minute of the game as Manuel Akanji replaced the midfielder to avoid risking an injury. Fluminese #5 Alexsander went studs flying into Rodri and catching the midfielder’s right leg from behind in the process. Rodri instantly fell to the ground in pain and was henceforth substituted.
Following the game, Rodri admitted that the tackle was ‘scary’. He also said that he won something more than a trophy. Rodri expressed his relief at being able to walk away from the horror challenge.

Meanwhile, to the delight of fans as well as his club, he admitted that he was fit to play even though there was a little bit of pain. He further assured that he was lucky and that it is nothing too worrying.

Manchester City lifted their fifth trophy of the season, following up their historic treble with a Super Cup and Club World Cup win. A statement 4-0 victory summed up Manchester City’s season, and Pep Guardiola chose not to hide his pride for the club. Talking to reporters after the full-time whistle, Guardiola said that he was extremely proud of this achievement.
Guardiola added that what they’ve achieved is worth praise. He also added that a Club World Cup can be equated to the best team in the world, he said:
As a manager it is what I'm most proud of. We are always there to fight for the next one.
Manchester City have made it a ‘habit’ of consistently competing for trophies year after year.
Pep also took pride in achieving the quintuple, something no other English club had achieved before them. With the Club World Cup under his belt, Guardiola has now won every single trophy available to him since taking charge at the City. He also became the first manager to win the Club World Cup with three different teams. Manchester City will take on Everton in the Premier League on 28th December.
