The victory of Saudi Arabia over Argentina has created a stir across the country. Mohamad Bin Salman, the Saudi Arabian crown prince, was pictured rejoicing after his country’s victory with friends and family. In order to honor the victory, the Saudi Arabian government had earlier declared Monday a national holiday.

Subsequently, the government of Saudi Arabia made another significant announcement. Following Saudi Arabia’s dramatic victory over football giant Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, each player will be awarded a Rolls Royce.

According to reports, they will each receive an RM6 million Rolls Royce Phantom from Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. This will not be the first time Saudi Arabian monarchy has given its football players a Rolls Royce. Forward Saeed Al-Owairan received a similar award in 1994 after scoring a goal against Belgium that is regarded as one of the greatest World Cup goals ever.

When Saudi Arabia rallied from behind to defeat Argentina 2-1 in their Group C opening on Tuesday, they pulled off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. La Albiceleste, one of the favourites to win in Qatar 2022, got off to a strong start at Lusail Stadium and took the lead thanks to Lionel Messi’s penalty after 10 minutes.

Before halftime, three attempts by Lionel Scaloni’s team were disallowed for offside. Saudi Arabia pounced on this escape early in the second half, scored their first goal in a five-minute span. Herve Renard’s team equalized through a goal from Saleh Al Shehri, and then shortly after with a beautiful strike from the edge of the penalty box, Salem Al Dawsari clinched a historic victory.

Their performance was so spectacular that the King of Saudi Arabia declared a public holiday to celebrate their historic win against La Albiceleste. The team now tops Group C with three points after their victory over the South Americans. They will next lock horns against Poland on 26th November.
