Reports from Brazil have suggested that former footballer and sporting icon Pele is counting his days at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo. Pele is fighting the battle of life and death against colon cancer and is in a critical situation. His condition seems to worsen, as his family is seen providing him support in his last days.
Amidst all this heartbreak, a video of him and fellow football maestro Diego Maradona surfaced. The two legends of the game were seen playing “keep-ups” in a TV show a few years ago. Just like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, even Pele and Maradona also shared a distant rivalry with each other.
In the video, Pele and Diego Maradona seem to enjoy each other’s company as they play a little game of theirs on the Brazilian entertainment show. It is heartbreaking to think that we might lose both these icons in the span of just 2 years. After Diego Maradona passed away in 2020, Pele was heartbroken and was seen giving his late friend a tribute as well.
Although the two generational players never played against each other, Pele and Maradona showed the utmost respect for each other at all times. The football legends have left an undisputed legacy behind them. Pele and Diego Maradona are national heroes in their respective countries. What condition is Pele suffering from?
On Wednesday, doctors from the Albert Einstein hospital confirmed that Pele’s bowel cancer was growing. He has been fighting against cancer for quite some time now. The sporting icon’s condition seems to be growing worse in the last few days. He was diagnosed with this illness in September 2021 and has been under medical treatment ever since.
Pele’s chemotherapy stopped responding after a few weeks into the treatment. The hospital shifted him to a special unit called “end-of-life care. The Brazilian was under special care. Reports suggest that the veteran is on the edge of life and death now. The whole nation is praying for Pele’s health as their national hero is struggling with his life.
Pele’s family is spending time with him at the hospital. His son and daughter are constantly sharing his medical updates on their social media platforms. It could be a Christmas to forget as we might have to witness one of football’s greatest players ever slowly climb the stairway to heaven.
