“You’re gonna play even less now”- Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez’s message to Gerard Pique after his complaints regarding playtime

Xavi and Gerard Pique

Barcelona and Spanish defender Gerard Pique had revealved that he is unhappy about his playtime at the club. While Xavi has reacted to that saying Pique’s game time will be further reduced after hearing the complaints in the dressing room. Pique is the highest-paid paid player at Barcelona at the moment earning a sum of €52 million per season which is an obstacle to the financial plans for the club.

Pique had played a total of 39 matches last season but has made two starts this season across competitions having played full time in the only league match against Cadiz. He has been overshadowed by Barcelona’s recent signings in the defense: Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde this summer. Pique is currently 35 years old and its time for him to make way for more promising, younger players at the club.

Barcelona looks to have found out their natural game:

Xavi and Pique share a moment during the playing days of the former.

Barcelona had made some notable signings in the summer transfer window and had spent over €150 million in order to build a strong squad for the ongoing season. Having some defensive problems last season, the club has spent hugely to strengthen that position and looks far more settled now. The club has won all the league games since drawing their first game against Real Valladolid and sits second in the league.

Barcelona had a dominant start to the UEFA Champions League after getting knocked out of the group stage last season. They looked absolutely unstoppable against Viktoria Plzen beating them 5-1 but in their second match against Bayern Munich, they lost the game. Xavi’s tactics are slowly paying off and the club looks far more settled, their next match is against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
