Top 5 latest transfer rumours in the Premier League

Premier League transfer window

The January transfer window is always a time for clubs to reshuffle their squad with new additions mid season and hope that their team get positive results due to those signings. However, in many cases it also means teams releasing a few players for more game time or for more money.

This winter, there have been many unexpected signings made by the Premier League clubs that might just be pivotal for their season as well as the team’s future. January transfer window is often considered to be the most tricky time in football as the clubs transfer strategies totally depend on the results of the team and also on the player availability mid season.

Many teams do not want to let their star players go mid season so it was very rare to see clubs making big name signings in the winter. However, there have been a few instances where big clubs have signed absolute stars in January. Bruno Fernandes for Manchester United, Virgil Van Dijk for Liverpool and Nemanja Vidic for Manchester United come to mind when we think of players who were signed in January and changed the direction of a football club for the better.

Top 5 transfer rumours this season in the Premier League:

5. Donny Van de Beek

Donny Van de Beek was signed by Manchester United just before the start of the 2020/21 season. The Dutchman was expected to be straight into the starting 11 but things just did not go as planned and the 24 year old has since been struggling to get game time.

Van de Beek scored in his debut for the Red Devils in the Premier League and many fans were hopeful that he would be the man to replace Paul Pogba in the midfield if the Frenchman was to leave. However, Pogba ended up staying for the season and this meant Van de Beek would have to be on the bench for most of the season.

The 24 year old as not got any opportunities at all during his time at the club previously under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and now under interim boss Ralf Rangnick. Van de Beek is expected to join Everton in the coming hours for a 6 month loan just so that he can get game time and revive his career. The Dutchman is expected to be back for the Red Devils in the summer and hopefully re-ignite his career.

4. Dejan Kulusevski

Dejan Kulusevski was expected to be a shining star for Juventus ever since he joined the club last season. But things just haven’t worked out for him at the Italian club and he has failed to make an impact for the team this season as well with limited number of games.

The Sweden international is a promising player but lack of confidence and very little game time means that he must find a new club this window as soon as possible. Kulusevski had a bright start for Juventus when he first played for them but things have just gone downhill since the appointment of current boss Maximilliano Allegri.

The 21 year old is expected to sign for Tottenham Hotspur for a 18 month loan initially. There will also be a mandatory buy option for English club if certain objectives are fulfilled. Hopefully this will be turning point in Kulusevski’s career and he can find his feet again.

3. Dan Burn

Dan Burn burst onto the new scene last season when he helped Brighton and Hove Albion stay up in the Premier League. He has since then become a key member of the team and has inherited a place in the starting lineup throughout the current season.

The English defender has been a massive player for Graham Potter and many fans and pundits are sure that an England call up is not far away. Burn has been in the heart of the Seagulls’ defence and his height has also played a massive part for the team during set pieces as he is always a threat.

However, recent reports are suggesting that Newcastle United have agreed to sign Dan Burn ahead of Deadline Day after missing out on other signings. The Magpies are battling to stay up in the Premier League and signing Burn will be a major turning point in the relegation race.

2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has played a huge part for Arsenal in their recent history. The Gabon international was signed from Borussia Dortmund in Arsene Wenger’s final season and his transfer has been a success until recently. He was made club captain last season too by Mikel Arteta.

But after breaching team rules, the 32 year old was removed from club captaincy last month and was removed from the matchday squad as well by the French manager. Now his career at Arsenal seems to be coming to a sad end as he has not played for the Gunners for over a month and has been left out of training too.

Aubameyang is expected to leave Arsenal on loan until the end of the season and join Spanish giants FC Barcelona where he will look to reignite his career. Mikel Arteta has also hinted that the 32 year old’s Arsenal career may be over as well.

1. Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen will be hopeful that he can start playing football at the highest level once again. The Denmark international had to be stretchered off during the Euro 2020 last summer after suffering a cardiac arrest mid game. This saw him terminate his contact with Inter Milan as well and had to be on the sidelines ever since.

Eriksen has been training with Ajax youth team recently and the midfielder looks to be in good shape to get back to playing football for a top club. Fans from all over the world are hoping to see the Denmark international play football again and hopefully he will in the coming weeks.

Eriksen is expected to join Premier League side Brentford for 6 months if he passes all medical tests and is deemed fit enough to play with a heart monitor. Brentford boss Thomas Frank has not yet hinted that Eriksen may be joining the club but recent reports are suggesting that it might happen soon before the Deadline Day.
