Canelo Alvarez is now the face of professional boxing. Since defeating Floyd Mayweather, Alvarez has improved significantly and even won the boxing title at light heavyweight. One of the important fights of Alvarez’s career was against Caleb Plant to become the undisputed champion at super middleweight.
With the victory over Plant, Alvarez became the first undisputed champion in the division. Moreover, he also gave Plant the first defeat of his professional boxing career via 11th-round TKO. Caleb Plant recently appeared on the Pound 4 Pound podcast, revealing what went wrong against Alvarez.
Probably just the experience, yeah, you know, the experience. You know, that's not something you can't buy. You can't get that in training. You gotta walk through the fire to get that, and you know, that experience isn't coming until you go and get it. So, um, I feel like the biggest thing for me was just getting that experience.Caleb Plant via Pound 4 Pound podcast
When Plant fought Canelo, the latter had 59 fights under his belt, while the former had only 21. Moreover, he even suffered bicep damage in the fight. The two had a heated face-off before the boxing fight due to the misunderstanding caused by the language barrier. However, after the boxing fight, Canelo stated Plant was family.
Plant rebounded from the loss with a knockout victory over Anthony Dirrell. However, he lost his recent fight against David Benavidez for the interim WBC super middleweight title. Caleb Plant now plans to fight Jermall Charlo, with whom he had an altercation. Afterward, he has rematches against Benavidez and Alvarez in mind.
Caleb Plant speaks on rematching Canelo Alvarez
Boxing’s super middleweight division has many high-profile names. Nonetheless, Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez are in a league of their own. Caleb Plant, Jaime Munguia, Demetrius Andrade, Christian M’billi, and others are on the second tier.
Plant had lost to Alvarez and Benavidez. However, that has not stopped him from realizing his dream. He wants to become the undisputed champion in the division. The first step to this is defeating contenders and rematching Alvarez, as revealed on the Pound 4 Pound podcast.
Canelo [Alvarez] did his job that night, but you know, at the same time, I'm looking to run it back, you know? I'm looking for me and Canelo to run it back, and you know, he told everybody like, 'Hey, y'all need to start fighting each other. Everybody wants to fight me.' You know? 'Why don't y'all get to fighting each other?' So, you know, I've been doing that.Caleb Plant via Pound 4 Pound podcast
Alvarez has long faced accusations of ducking Benavidez. Moreover, his next fight is likely against Terence Crawford, who fights 147lbs to Alvarez’s 168lbs. However, Plant did not think Canelo was at a disadvantage against Benavidez.
