Mercedes W13 during and after Barcelona testing
The curtain raiser for the new season, the Bahrain testing, got underway this morning. Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton took center stage with their new challenger W-13. Mercedes decided to make significant changes to the new challenger which was devoid of any ‘sidepods‘ which could give George Russell and Lewis Hamilton a significant advantage, as per the reports.
This four day event started at 10 am in the morning as the teams test out their new challenger just before the new start kickstarts the excitement and puts an end to a much awaited sporting event all across the world. Pierre Gasly was the first one to come out with the rest of the pack following him.
Haas was the only team to miss out on the morning session in Bahrain as the VF-22 couldn’t be readied in time after facing some technical and logistical difficulties. Charles Leclerc clocked the fastest lap at 1.34.531 in the morning as he continues his good form from Barcelona and he also went on to do the second most number of laps just after Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.
Then Lewis Hamilton’s even slimmer W-13 came out which raised eyebrows and grabbed the attention. Lewis Hamilton was able to set the pace with a 1m41.502s on the C2 hard compound but eventually was able to finish P5 with the fastest lap at 1.36.768.
Lando Norris didn’t have the best of the days at the office as he struggled for pace, clocking his fastest lap at 1.37.580 and also did a meagre 21 laps. Valtteri Bottas and Alfa Romeo rounded up the leaderboard in the morning session in Bahrain testing.
