Alex Albon Reveals What It’s Like To Be Max Verstappen’s teammate
Alex Albon
Amidst all the rumours which say that there is pressure of racing alongside Max Verstappen as his teammate, Max’s former teammate Alex Ablon has claimed that those stories are ‘a bit of myth’ It is no lie that Red Bull’s main driver has been Max for over 3 years now. He has had over four teammates, all of which have failed to reach his level of consistency and therefore have been forced to become the secondary driver.
The Dutch driver’s first teammate was Daniel Ricciardo who had a very good relationship with Max Verstappen but could not handle the inner competition and politics and thus, moved to Renault. Next up was Pierre Gasly who was promoted from AlphaTauri in 2019, but was later removed and replaced. When asked about this question, Red Bull Racing boss said that this decision was made to protect Pierre from the pressure of underperforming at a top team.
Alex Albon on Being Max Verstappen’s Teammate
He was then replaced by Thai driver Alex Albon who made his Red Bull debut at the Belgium Grand Prix. Unlike other drivers, Albon was given more time at the team but was eventually pushed to the sidelines as RB went for Sergio Perez instead.
Sergio Perez is doing a fair job this season to say the least, but is no where near his teammate who is competing closely for the World Championship. Max surely is hard to follow and is not easy to compete with, a fact which is well known by everyone, it has been acknowledged by boss Helmut Marko as well.
After being seat less this season, Alex Albon is all set to race next season as he confirmed his move to Williams. Albon will certainly be looking to prove everyone who doubted him in the upcoming season. Although he has a deal with Williams till 2023, Christian (Horner) has said that Albon’s contract has a clause which will allow the driver to return to Red Bull if he wants to in 2022.
