Andreas Seidl reveals why Lando Norris rejected call to tow teammate Daniel Ricciardo
Lando Norris and Andreas Seidl
Race fans found it strange when Lando Norris clearly denied to tow teammate Daniel Ricciardo during the practice session. McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl stated that it was because of the traffic on the previous lap. From what was heard on the broadcasting, it seemed like the Brit driver outright denied to give the Australian Honey Badger the advantage of a slipstream during the final lap in free practice 1.
To those who missed out, Norris stated, “I want to do my own lap. I don’t want to do the tow.” Seidl went onto state that Lando Norris eventually towed Daniel Ricciardo on another lap after that, which wasn’t broadcasted on the television screens.
What was Opinionated by Andreas Seidl?
“Yeah, that’s obviously always one of the opportunities you look for, to play the game between the two drivers to give a tow to each other – especially when it gets tight in qualy 2, to move into qualy 3,” Andreas Seidl told Sky F1.
Given how tight McLaren and Ferrari’s competition is, in the Constructor’s Standings, it seems like every point will matter in determining the third best team of the 2021 Formula 1 season.
“I think we are well-prepared for these five races now in terms of parts,” he said. “We are in such an intense battle with Ferrari, we need to give it all. We need to go to the limit every lap we do out there, and that’s the approach.”
Andreas Seidl concluded by stating, “So we wanted to try it on the second lap I think with Lando, but then he wanted to have one more go because he had traffic in the first lap, so he did it the lap after. We need to analyse now how good that tow was, and then see what we need to do with our cars.”
