“If Herbie had been there in Abu Dhabi, the race would have been red-flagged,” says Peter Windsor

“If Herbie had been there in Abu Dhabi, the race would have been red-flagged,” says Peter Windsor

Following the controversial end to the 2021 Formula One season, Race Director Micheal Masi has been sacked from his position. The FIA has since conducted new structural changes in the governing body and made improvements to make racing fair.

F1 journalist Peter Windsor has backed the appointment of Herbie Blash as a senior advisor. “Herbie thinks the same way as Charlie Whiting,” he said backing Blash and saying he would have prevented the clash between Max and Lewis by taking fair decisions like late race director Whiting.

Lewis Hamilton lost the season finale to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen after racing Wheel-to-Wheel in a nail-biting season. The controversial ruling by the then Race Director Micheal Masi allowed the cars between Hamilton and Verstappen to unlap themselves giving the Dutchman a chance to make the overtake on the Briton with his fresher soft tyres.

Peter Windsor says “Herbie thinks like Whiting”

F1 expert Windsor welcomes the appointment of his Herbie Blash. In a recent Youtube video, the Brit shared his confidence in the incoming Blash. Windsor has previously worked in the F1 Paddock along with Blash and is optimistic about his presence.

“It’s a very important move. I think they could have left Masi there, but only on the condition that Herbie would be next to him. I am sure that if Herbie had been there in Abu Dhabi that the race would have been red-flagged and there would have been a restart with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen on the same tyres,” said Windsor.

Following Masi’s sacking, Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas will alternate between races as the Race Director role. Blash will presume the role of ‘permanent senior advisor’ and shall be overseeing the decisions of the Race Director.
