Felipe Massa wanting Max Verstappen to win because of former teammate Michael Schumacher
Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher
Former Brazilian ace driver is known to be one of the closest friends of Michael Schumacher, who has won the world champion seven times. Knowing that Lewis Hamilton could potentially break the record of the former Ferrari ace driver, Massa wants Max Verstappen to edge over the defending champion for evident reasons.
Both Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen have been on each other’s toes from the very first race and with only 3 races to go, it is incredibly tough to pick a winner. With no driver being dominant on the upcoming tracks for a guaranteed reason, Felipe Massa is keenly hoping that the Dutchman could beat the Brit somehow, so that he doesn’t break Schumacher’s record of seven world champions.
Felipe Massa rooting for Verstappen for Michael Schumacher
In 2020, Lewis Hamilton equaled Michael Schumacher’s record by winning his seventh title. Now in 2021, he is hoping to set his own record, but Massa hopes that Red Bull prodigy can prevent the Mercedes driver from doing so.
As quoted by Speedweek, Felipe Massa said, “Max Verstappen. He deserves it, and it would be great to have another world champion. Max would give everything for victory. Even if it means that he ends up in gravel.”
Massa added, “I would like Schumi to remain record holder with his seven World Cup titles.”
Having said that, with only 3 races remaining in the Middle East, it is very hard to pick a winner between Verstappen and Hamilton. All speculations will be answered Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen head to Qatar next, will Felipe Massa’s wish come true? Or will the Brit be able to close the gap in the Driver’s Standings even further? Time will time.
