Fernando Alonso: Lewis Hamilton Came into F1 Like a ‘Tsunami’
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso has revealed that the 2007 Formula 1 season was a crucial campaign in his career, and has described Lewis Hamilton’s arrival to F1 as a ‘tsunami’. The two-time World Champion, Fernando Alonso joined McLaren in 2007, having just become a double World Champion with Renault, so the hype and buzz was buzzing during that time as well.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton was a rookie but challenged Alonso immediately and stamped his authority by going around the outside of the Spaniard on the opening lap of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
What Was Opinionated by Fernando Alonso on Lewis Hamilton?
“[2007] was a very important season for me,” Alonso told Sky Sports. “Lewis Hamilton came into Formula 1 like a tsunami with all of his talent, and all of his abilities and results – immediately results. That was intense and that was also challenging for everybody.
“Looking back, and I think Lewis will think the same, we had no issues between us, no problems. We had a very tough competition, but fair.”
Alonso concluded, “Honestly, I think, and probably he agrees, the team didn’t handle the situation. I don’t want to blame Ron [Dennis], I don’t want to blame any particular name, but as a team, as a management, we were too young. We were too ambitious and nobody guided us in a way.”
