“Ferrari and Red Bull’s pace unexceptional,” George Russell ‘belittles’ the duo’s terrific pre-season showing ahead of the season opener in Bahrain
George Russell
George Russell and Mercedes have definitely looked average, to be honest, for the best part of the two pre season testing in Barcelona and Bahrain. But, since mouth runs in Mercedes’ DNA, their prodigy George has learnt the tricks of trade quickly from his team Principal Toto Wolff and taken a dig at Ferrari and Red Bull even after the scintillating pre season the two teams have enjoyed.
All the pre season mind games would have made sense, had Mercedes been dominant in the pre season proceedings. Mercedes have grabbed the attention, thanks to their unique ‘sidepod less‘ design. But that has been the sole reason behind the excitement of the fans. We all know Mercedes can always bounce back at any given point in time but it’s important to stay modest in situations in adversity.
The sport has humbled many greats, so it’s important to let the car do the talking. Based on the performances that we have seen in Barcelona and Bahrain, Ferrari and Red Bull have definitely looked the teams to beat. Karting mates Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have run riot at the front of the grid without dropping a sweat.

The should be worrying for Mercedes but George Russell thinks otherwise. He said, “I don’t think they’re exceptional, I think we’re probably not as competitive as we’d like to be honest.”
“It’s pretty clear where we’re limited, you’ve only got to watch the videos and you see us bouncing a lot, it’s not putting the car in the right window.”
“The Ferrari and Red Bull are in the natural position and we’re a step… their delta from the front to the midfield and to the back is probably correct, we’re just a little further behind than we’d like.” As reported by racer.
George Russell is definitely one of the hottest properties in Formula 1 but he is also someone who is yet to prove his worth. The talk will definitely make more sense after he has had some wins under his belt and gets the better off his direct rival Max Verstappen. Let’s see how Mercedes’ prodigy gets his season underway in Bahrain in less than a week’s time.
